Leighton Moss RSPB, by train

Leighton Moss RSPB, near Carnforth.

This visit will be a stark contrast to our sultry September visit (not just the weather - no cheap tickets this time I'm afraid!), but we have had many enjoyable winter days at Leighton Moss.

It is a chance to observe the winter ducks and waders, and the woodland birds. In the past we have been lucky enough to have good views of otters at this time of year. If there are starlings about then the train times will allow us to watch if there is a murmuration.

This is a long day out - though you can adjust your travel to suit you if you prefer.

We will meet at Shipley Station on platform 2 for the 8.32 am Morecambe train, arriving at Silverdale at 10.29 am (one change at Carnforth). The station is 250m from the visitor centre (info, cafe, toilets, shop).

Coming home, we will leave Silverdale station at 17.31, getting back to Shipley at 19.19 [If you want a shorter day you could choose to travel out on the 10.33 (a. Silverdale 12.17) or leave on the 14.33 (a. Shipley 16.19).]

You will be responsible for buying your ticket and need to have bought it before you get on the train.

I know quite a few people have railcards, but if there are people without, we may be able to match people up to get a Duo ticket, so let Julia know if this may apply to you. You can view times and tickets and connections to Shipley at Northern Rail here

RSPB entrance fees apply (for non-members), but are half price if you arrive by public transport.

Even though you will need to buy your own ticket, and can decide at the time whether you want to come, please let BEES or Julia know if you are planning to attend. We need to know who to contact if we have to make last minute changes due to any issues with trains, weather or Covid.
