Leighton Moss, RSPB

near Carnforth, Silverdale

One of the leading wetland reserves in the north, we can expect to see a range of ducks and waders, as well as birds of prey such as Peregrine Falcons and Marsh Harriers.

This time last year we saw Merlin and watched an otter feeding on eels. At the time of writing it is too early to know whether there will be starlings roosting at the reserve, but we hope to stay and watch if they are murmurating.  Sunset is at 16.53pm, so we can assume we will be returning to Bradford relatively late for a winter trip. There are plenty of facilities at the reserve; a number of hides, surfaced paths (can be wet if rain has been heavy), toilets, cafe, shop. Entrance charges apply for non-RSPB members.
